This wonderful original travel poster promotes Gothenburg as a travel destination, featuring a depiction of Bohus Fortress, located just outside the city. Rendered in warm yellow shades reminiscent of a sunset, the poster highlights the medieval fortress, whose construction began in 1308 under King Haakon V Magnuson, King of Norway from 1299 to 1319.
Bohus Fortress holds a remarkable history, having been besieged 14 times by Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish forces, yet never conquered—a record in Nordic history. According to legend, the fortress’s impregnable nature is due to a dog dragging the first stone to begin its construction, adding to the lore surrounding this historic site.
The poster has been mounted on linen and remains in very good condition.
