This is a vibrant and rare original 1920 Danish poster created to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Oscar Fredericksen Fiskehuset No. 1, the pioneering fish wholesaler in Copenhagen. Designed by Sven Henriksen, the artwork exemplifies early modernist Scandinavian design with its bold, stylized illustration of a fantastical fish. The creature, rendered in dramatic shades of teal, navy, and bright coral, bursts with exaggerated fins and a fierce expression, lending the piece a surreal, eye-catching quality that draws the viewer in.
Above the illustration, the text announces the Jubilee Exhibition of Oscar Fredericksen, held at the Teknologisk Institut throughout April, with daily openings from 2 to 10 p.m. and an entrance fee of 1 krone. The typography is modern and geometric, reinforcing the poster’s sense of progress and innovation. Printed by Kruckow-Waldorff, the piece has been mounted on thin Japan paper with a large hinge at the top, making it ideal for framing.
Despite some light wear, it remains in very good condition—a striking tribute to both Copenhagen’s seafood trade and the visual boldness of 1920s graphic design.
