A charming vintage travel poster promoting the Netherlands’ famous flower fields, designed by Dutch graphic artist Machiel Wilmink for the Office National du Tourisme. The poster features a simplified map highlighting Haarlem, Amsterdam, and Leiden—centers of the Dutch bulb-growing region—paired with a striking illustration of three oversized tulips in vivid purple, yellow, and red.
This work captures the elegance of interwar European travel advertising, with its clean layout, bold typography, and emphasis on seasonal tourism—in this case the March–May tulip season. Wilmink’s modernist design and the poster’s French text suggest it was aimed at drawing Francophone travelers north to witness the spectacle of Holland’s flower fields.
A beautiful and rare prewar travel poster, combining cartography with classic floral imagery, and a fine example of Dutch Art Deco poster design.
Condition: Mounted on linen. Minor tears and creasing at the edges, minimal staining, and slight buckling consistent with age.
