Oslo - Norway - Norwegian America Line

This original vintage travel poster for Oslo, Norway was issued in 1962 by the Norwegian State Railways and the Oslo Travel Association and designed by the celebrated Norwegian graphic designer Knut Yran. This version includes additional promotional text for Norwegian America Line, reading “Enjoy your trip – go by ship,” linking the destination with sea travel.

The composition is cheerful and playful, capturing the spirit of Scandinavian summer tourism during the golden age of travel advertising. A smiling child stands in shallow seaside water holding a bouquet of flowers and a traditional Norwegian doll dressed in folk costume. Seagulls glide across the sky while sailboats move over the calm water in the background, creating a relaxed coastal atmosphere. The warm red sky and soft pastel tones contrast beautifully with the blue-and-white striped bathing suit, giving the poster a vibrant and inviting character.

Knut Yran was one of Norway’s most influential graphic designers and is well known for his travel posters as well as his role as design director for the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics. His work often combined playful illustration, strong color palettes, and clear typography, making destinations feel welcoming and full of charm.

In very good condition with only slight signs of pinholes in the corners. Displays beautifully and would look stunning framed on the wall.
