This vibrant original vintage travel poster from 1961 was designed by David Judd for BOAC, promoting long-distance air travel during the golden age of international aviation.
Titled “Fly There by BOAC,” the poster features a dynamic and highly stylized depiction of a traditional Asian junk boat sailing across richly textured blue waters. The bright yellow sails stand out dramatically against the swirling, painterly background, creating a strong sense of movement and adventure. In the foreground, delicate branches with blossoms add an exotic and serene touch, balancing the energy of the composition.
The design cleverly juxtaposes traditional maritime imagery with modern air travel, suggesting that distant and culturally rich destinations—once reached slowly by sea—are now easily accessible by air. The bold typography reinforces this message, with “FLY THERE BY BOAC” prominently placed to capture attention.
The expressive brushwork and vivid color palette are characteristic of mid-century travel posters, combining artistic flair with strong commercial appeal.
Condition: Small tears and minor creasing at the edges, along with a tiny area of loss at the upper right edge. Despite this, the poster retains excellent color and visual impact and displays very well.
A striking and decorative example of 1960s airline advertising, highly appealing to collectors of aviation posters and mid-century graphic design.
