Benelux

This original vintage Benelux exhibition poster, designed by Jan Bons in 1948, was created for the Benelux section at the Foire de Paris (Paris Fair). The striking Modernist composition depicts a hand holding a stylized map of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, symbolizing the close cooperation between the three neighboring countries. National flags identify the member states, while a dotted route connects them, emphasizing unity, commerce, and the free movement of people and goods.

Designed by Jan Bons, one of the leading Dutch graphic designers of the post-war era, the poster is an outstanding example of early European Modernist graphic design. His bold use of simplified forms, strong typography, and vivid colors helped define Dutch poster art in the decades following World War II.

The poster was issued in 1948, the same year the Benelux Customs Union officially came into force, making it both an important exhibition piece and a celebration of one of Europe's earliest experiments in economic cooperation. Displayed at the prestigious Paris Fair, it promoted the Benelux region as a dynamic and united economic area to an international audience.
