Description:

When launched in 1923, for Royal Mail Lines, R.M.S. Asturias (II) was the largest motorship in the world. Built with 2 squat funnels which were heightened in 1934. In 1939 converted into an armed merchant cruiser and the forward funnel was removed. So this artwork must be made between 1934 - 1939.

In 1957 Asturias played the part of Titanic in the film A Night To Remember, shortly before she was scrapped.

The designer Kenneth Shoesmith, was respected member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and of the British Society of Poster Designers.

A mostly self-taught artist and a former seaman, he travelled the world working for the Royal Mail Line and for Southern Railways. As well as numerous works depicting liners and sailing vessels, he designed and painted large decorative murals on board the Queen Mary.

Shoesmith was well regarded for the knowledgeable descriptions and precision of detail in his works.

The print has some minor signs of foxing and being rolled. Would look great framed.
