Description:

This is a wonderful original vintage poster promoting "Holiday Cruises in Norway's Beautiful Fjords", 13 - day Cruises.

The artist, Charles Edward Dixon, was a British maritime painter of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, whose work was highly successful and regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy. He worked for many different shipping companies, designing posters for P & O Line, Aberdeen Line, the Red Star Line, the French Line, the Khedival Mail Line and the White Star Line.

The rendering depicts the famous Steam Yacht Meteor probably in Geiranger. Meteor was a cruise ship, delivered from Blohm und Voss, Hamburg in 1904 for Hamburg-Amerikanische Paketfahrt AG. Handed over to Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. Ltd., London in 1919 and purchased by Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskab 1921. DY "Meteor" and MY "Stella Polaris" where two of BDS's flag ships along the Norwegian fjords.
