This stunning original vintage airline poster, likely issued by BOAC in 1949/1950, promotes the BOAC Hermes Speedbird.
The poster features a detailed cutaway rendering of the brand-new plane against a sky blue background, showcasing the structure of the aircraft, including the cockpit, cabins, crew, and smiling passengers. It highlights various features, such as separate men's and ladies' toilets and a diplomatic mail locker.
The BOAC Hermes Speedbird was a civilian airliner operated by British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in the early 1950s. The Hermes IV entered service with BOAC on August 6, 1950, and was primarily used on routes to West and South Africa. It operated services from London Heathrow to Accra via Tripoli, Kano, and Lagos, as well as flights to Kenya and South Africa. The call sign "Speedbird" is still used by British Airways for its international flights.
This horizontal gem is in excellent condition, having been professionally preserved and mounted on linen.
