Greece - Besucht Rhodos

This is a spectacular original travel poster designed by Huber in 1935 to promote Rhodes, Greece as a destination to visit. The poster depicts Rhodes from above rendered as a map with many archaeological sites and the Colossus, one of "The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" standing tall in the entrance to the harbor. Lots of details!

The designer, the Austrian potter Egon Huber, was washed up in Rhodes during a storm in in 1931 while trying to travel from Venice to Alexandria in a canoe. He fell in love with the island and decided to stay. He worked at ICARO ceramics for many years.

Rhodes is often promoted as “The Island of the Roses”. Huber himself believed the true ‘rose’ of Rhodes is a hibiscus.
