This original vintage Swedish poster was designed by Hans Erik Olsén (1911–1983) to promote Liseberg, Gothenburg's world-famous amusement park. Created for the park's Jubilee Season, the poster announces the traditional opening on Valborgsmässoafton (Walpurgis Night), the evening of 30 April, when Liseberg welcomed visitors for a new season of entertainment and festivities.
Founded in 1923 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the City of Gothenburg, Liseberg rapidly became Scandinavia's premier amusement park. Known for its gardens, concerts, rides, and family attractions, it attracted visitors from across Sweden and abroad. Opening the season on Valborg, one of Sweden's most celebrated spring festivals, became a cherished tradition that marked the arrival of warmer days and outdoor recreation.
Hans Erik Olsén was one of Sweden's foremost illustrators and advertising artists during the mid-20th century. His work is distinguished by vibrant colours, clean compositions, and an engaging sense of movement. In this delightful design, a cheerful toy soldier marches forward beating an oversized drum while a bluebird balances playfully on the drumstick. The joyful imagery perfectly conveys the excitement and optimism surrounding Liseberg's anniversary celebrations and reflects the golden age of Scandinavian travel and advertising art.
A wonderfully colourful and lively design that combines vintage charm with timeless appeal. It makes an eye-catching display piece and looks especially delightful on the wall of a child's bedroom, playroom, or nursery.
In very good condition with light age wear.
