Vinterspelen Umeå SM 1952

This beautiful and rare original vintage Swedish ski poster from 1952 was designed by Ragnar "Ranke" Sandgren to promote the Swedish National Ski Championships (Vinterspelen SM 1952), held in Umeå from 9 to 16 March 1952.

The poster features a wonderfully playful and unusual mid-century modernist design with an almost Pop Art character. A small skier appears to be making a figure-eight turn around a large, stylized birch tree, surrounded by abstract snow-covered trees and colorful flags. Sandgren's imaginative use of geometric shapes, bold typography and bright colors creates a striking composition full of movement and humor.

Umeå is located in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden, a region with a strong tradition of skiing and winter sports. This poster is a particularly charming example of 1950s Scandinavian graphic design, combining the excitement of competitive skiing with an almost whimsical artistic expression.

A rare and highly decorative Swedish ski poster, seldom encountered on the market. It would look wonderful framed, especially in a ski lodge or on the wall of someone with a special connection to Umeå and skiing.

In overall very good condition, with some water staining along the bottom margin.
