A wonderful and lovely poster by Swiss famous master of posters; Emil Cardinaux.
The poster depicts a picturesque village in the Gotthard Pass and was used by SBB to promote the Gotthard Tunnel that opened in 1882. You see the railway track in front of the village, in the lower left of the poster. Guess the village is Wassen.
After the opening of the Gotthard railway in 1882, the chapel in Wassen became the landmark of the journey to the south, and a fix point for the confusing layout of the Gotthard tunnel. The Gotthardbahn rail line passes Wassen with a double loop curved tunnel.
The poster is in very good condition over 100 years old making it an antique poster.
