A lively and charming original vintage French advertising poster designed by Édouard Dolléret in 1950 promoting “Bière Mosellane,” the beer of the Moselle region in northeastern France.
The colorful and highly graphic composition depicts four cheerful figures balancing on beer barrels while raising large glasses in celebration. Around the central slogan — “Tous boivent de la bière mosellane” (“Everyone drinks Moselle beer”) — the poster highlights different professions and social groups, including workers, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants, emphasizing the beer’s broad popular appeal.
Édouard Dolléret created the design in a bold postwar commercial style with simplified forms, warm colors, and playful character illustrations that give the poster exceptional decorative charm. The glowing red and orange background, combined with the rhythmic arrangement of the barrels and figures, creates a wonderfully dynamic composition typical of mid-century European advertising art.
Beer production has long been associated with the Moselle region due to its cultural and geographic proximity to both Germany and Alsace-Lorraine, areas with deep brewing traditions. Posters such as this celebrated regional identity while promoting local industry during the economic recovery years following the Second World War.
