A striking original vintage railway poster celebrating the 100th anniversary of Danish State Railways (DSB), issued in 1947 and designed by Aage Rasmussen (1913–1975).
The dramatic composition depicts two steam locomotives from different eras rushing toward one another through clouds of steam. In the foreground, a modern locomotive emerges powerfully from the right, while an earlier nineteenth-century engine appears ghost-like on the left, symbolizing a century of technological progress and railway development in Denmark. The rich red background, crowned by the royal emblem above the DSB initials, lends the poster a strong sense of national pride and occasion.
Founded in 1847, DSB marked its centenary with a series of events and publications celebrating one hundred years of railway transportation. Rasmussen's design effectively captures both the heritage and the forward-looking spirit of the Danish railways, combining bold graphic impact with a dynamic sense of movement.
Aage Rasmussen was one of Denmark's leading commercial artists and poster designers of the mid-twentieth century. His work is characterized by strong composition, vivid color, and an ability to transform transportation subjects into memorable visual statements.
Excellent condition. A superb railway poster and an important piece of Danish transportation history.
