This colorful Pinkster-Retours poster was designed by Piet Worm (1909–1996), one of the Netherlands’ most recognizable mid-20th-century poster artists. The design celebrates the Pentecost holiday travel offer, using Worm’s signature bright palette, flowing ribbon motifs, and floral imagery to evoke spring, sunshine, and affordable leisure travel.
The poster was issued by Nederlandsche Spoorwegen, promoting special return fares and family discounts for the holiday period. Such cheerful, optimistic railway posters were a hallmark of Dutch graphic design in the postwar decades, combining clear messaging with decorative, almost folkloric illustration.
The poster is in good condition, with a rough upper right corner and light fold marks consistent with age and original use. Despite these flaws, the colors remain vibrant and the overall presentation is strong, making it an appealing and authentic example of classic Dutch railway advertising.
