A charming and highly memorable prewar French railway poster designed by Roland Hugon for SNCF in 1938.
The playful composition shows a smiling child dressed in winter clothing peeking out from behind a pair of skis, with snowy alpine peaks in the background. The slogan “8 jours de neige blanche – une année de joues roses” (“8 days of white snow – a year of rosy cheeks”) perfectly captures the healthy outdoor spirit and growing popularity of winter sports tourism in France during the late 1930s.
Roland Hugon created several elegant travel and tourism posters for SNCF, and this design stands out for its warmth, simplicity, and instantly recognizable imagery. The strong vertical composition of the skis combined with the cheerful child creates an appealing and highly effective advertising image that remains visually fresh today.
