A powerful and historically significant original poster designed by Jean B. Picard in the late 1940s to support French servicemen involved in the First Indochina War. The text “Aide aux combattants d’Indochine, aux anciens, à leurs familles” translates as “Aid for the combatants of Indochina, veterans, and their families,” reflecting the poster’s role as a fundraising and support campaign during the conflict.
The composition depicts a monumental soldier emerging from a stylized Indochinese landscape rendered in warm yellow and orange tones. The dramatic image combines heroic realism with softer illustrative elements, creating both emotional impact and visual elegance. At the upper left appears a flowing tricolor ribbon in the colors of the French flag, reinforcing the patriotic message.
Issued for the “Quinzaine Nationale” campaign held from 8–22 June, the poster appealed to public support for soldiers, former combatants, and their families affected by the war in French Indochina. Such posters are important historical documents from the postwar colonial period and are increasingly sought after for both their graphic quality and historical context.
This is the large-format version of the poster, offering particularly impressive display presence. Fold marks. Mounted on linen.
