Greece Crete-Palais De Cnossos

This original vintage Greece travel poster was designed in 1949 by Helen Perakis-Theocharis to promote Crete and the Palace of Knossos. Issued by the Greek tourism authorities in Athens, the poster presents an elegant, highly stylized view of the famous Minoan archaeological site, with its distinctive red columns, stone walls, painted decoration, pottery, and surrounding Cretan landscape.

The composition evokes the reconstructed architecture and colorful frescoes associated with Knossos, including the decorative birds and natural motifs that reflect the sophisticated visual culture of the ancient Minoan civilization. The strong geometric forms and warm Mediterranean palette give the poster a refined Art Deco and early Modernist character, while the large French title, “Grèce – Crète – Palais de Cnossos,” indicates that it was intended for international tourism promotion.
