Ocean Liner |
This striking Art Deco travel poster was designed by Renato Cenni for Lloyd Triestino, one of Italy's most important shipping companies. Issued in the 1930s, it promotes the company's Indien–Ostasien Express service linking Europe with India and the Far East.
Cenni employs a bold and highly stylized composition dominated by a monumental Asian boatman holding a long oar, rendered in dramatic shades of red, black, and orange against a glowing golden background. In the distance, a sleek ocean liner glides across calm waters, symbolizing the modern maritime routes connecting East and West. The contrast between traditional local imagery and contemporary ocean travel reflects the fascination with distant destinations that characterized interwar travel advertising.
With its powerful geometric forms, vibrant color palette, and elegant simplicity, the poster is an outstanding example of Italian Art Deco design and one of Renato Cenni's most memorable maritime compositions.
Very good condition with light age wear.
