This original Italian travel poster from ca. 1925, designed by Giuseppe Magagnoli (1878–1933), promotes the Aosta Valley (Valle d’Aosta) in the Italian Alps. The poster was issued by ENIT (Ente Nazionale Italiano per il Turismo) together with FS (Ferrovie dello Stato, Italian State Railways) and was produced for the German-speaking market with the title “Das Tal von Aosta (Italien)”.
Magagnoli created a striking and highly stylized Alpine composition, with a monumental snow-covered mountain rising beneath an intense blue sky. Dark geometric forms frame the mountain, while a group of green fir trees provides a strong contrast in the foreground. The bold typography and simplified shapes give the poster a distinctly modern 1920s Italian graphic style.
The Aosta Valley, surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the Alps, was already being promoted internationally during this period for its spectacular mountain scenery and growing importance as an Alpine tourist destination. The poster is a particularly attractive early example of Italian railway and tourism advertising.
