Sveriges Nationella Ungdomsförbund 1928 årsstämma i Kalmar

This original Swedish poster from 1928 promotes the annual meeting of Sveriges Nationella Ungdomsförbund (SNU) in Kalmar. The slogan “Möt upp i pingst” invited members to gather during the Pentecost holiday for the organization’s årsstämma.

The blue-and-white design shows a young man raising a large Swedish flag above a crowd, with the distinctive silhouette of Kalmar Castle in the background. The imagery of flags, banners and assembled youth gives the poster a strong sense of the organized youth movements of interwar Sweden.

Sveriges Nationella Ungdomsförbund was a Swedish conservative and nationalist youth organization, at this time closely associated with the Swedish political right. The poster is therefore an interesting piece of Swedish political and social history, as well as an attractive example of late-1920s graphic design.
