An attractive original vintage travel poster designed by Gunnar Christenson in 1947 promoting Helsingborg as a travel destination. The poster depicts the famous medieval tower Kärnan rising above the city with the coastline and the Øresund strait in the background.
Kärnan is the last remaining part of a once powerful fortress that controlled the strategic entrance between the Kattegat and the Øresund together with Kronborg Castle on the Danish side. For centuries this narrow waterway formed one of the most important maritime passages in Northern Europe, linking the North Sea with the Baltic. Helsingborg itself has long been a key Scandinavian port city with close historical ties to Denmark and the surrounding Øresund region.
The design by Gunnar Christenson captures the calm atmosphere and architectural character of southern Sweden in a refined postwar modernist style, using simplified forms and soft colors to create a highly decorative composition.
Mounted on linen and in excellent condition.
