This is a stunning authentic lithographic printed advertising poster designed by the famous poster designer Abram Games. It was issued to promote BOAC flights across the Atlantic Ocean in 1949. Although no faster than the previous Lockheed Constellations, it was the height of luxury having twin decks, full sleeper bunks and a downstairs lounge.
The poster depicts USA and Great Britain placed in a stylistic rendering and map divided by the Atlantic Ocean indicating flights to each continent. The speedbird logo is visible in two different colors.
Speedbird is still today a call sign used by British Airways during air traffic control procedures, as well as the name for the stylized emblem of the airline’s predecessors, Imperial Airways and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). B.O.A.C. It’s a small world by speedbird.
