This is a rare and delightful original vintage poster published by Sitmar Lines in 1928 to promote their journeys to Alexandria, Egypt.
Società Italiana di Servizi Marittimi (SITMAR) was formed in 1913 and merged into Società Anonima di Navigazione Lloyd Triestino as part of the 1936 Italian Government shipping reorganization.
The poster features a timetable at the bottom, providing information about the ships and their routes, which include ports such as Genoa, Naples, Catania, and Syracuse.
The poster is designed by Vittorio Grassi, who worked at Banca d'Italia, had a keen interest in printing methods and was passionate about painting, especially landscapes. He was also a co-founder of the Architecture Department at the University of Rome. Grassi's talents extended to creating drawings and illustrations for prestigious architectural publications, as well as designing furniture, glasswork, and ceramics.
In excellent condition with only minor fold marks, this poster is a true gem for collectors.
