This is an exceptional original vintage poster, commissioned by Ellerman's to promote their "City Line to and from India." The poster features the SS City of Naples, launched in 1908 and unfortunately wrecked in 1926, captured here at sea against a backdrop of a serene blue sky with the iconic silhouette of the Taj Mahal.
Originating from Glasgow, the City Line traces its roots back to 1840 when George Smith & Sons was established, initially trading with India and later expanding its reach globally. In 1892, the firm was officially incorporated as City Line Ltd., and in 1901, it transitioned to Ellerman's ownership, becoming Ellerman's City Line.
Though the poster underwent restoration to address paper loss at the lower right side, the meticulous restoration work enhances its visual appeal. Mounted on linen, this poster is poised to make a stunning display on any wall, offering a captivating glimpse into the maritime history associated with Ellerman's City Line and the majestic allure of India.
