This is a striking original horizontal vintage poster, issued by BEA British European Airways in the late 1940s.
The poster features a detailed rendering in red and beige, with a color illustration showcasing a cutaway view of the BEA Vickers Viking aircraft. The interior cabin, complete with passenger amenities and crew, is labeled in black German text, indicating the poster was intended for the Austrian market, as noted by the small "Austria" text in the upper left corner.
BEA was formed as a division of the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) on January 1, 1946, and became a crown corporation on its own on August 1, 1946. It was established to operate airliners within Europe, with the first VC.1 Vikings transferred to the new airline. After a trial flight from Northolt to Oslo on August 20, 1946, BEA's first regular Viking scheduled service began between Northolt and Copenhagen Airport on September 1, 1946.
The poster is in very good condition, a 7cm tear middle lower margin. Otherwise light wear. Mounted on Japan paper. This wonderful piece would make a great conversation starter and look fantastic on any wall.
