Swedish Lloyd, originally known as Ångfartygs AB Svenska Lloyd, was founded in Gothenburg on May 10, 1869. The 1920s were a challenging period for the company, but a significant milestone was the acquisition of the S/S Suecia and S/S Britannia from the Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson shipyard in Newcastle. These vessels entered the London line in June 1929, heralding a new era for the company.
