This is an original vintage poster designed by Frederick Charles Herrick for The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company (RMSPC) in the 1920s. The RMSPC, founded in 1839 by James MacQueen, operated mail services and tours to destinations in the Caribbean and South America, and by 1927, it had grown to be the largest shipping group in the world. In 1932, the company was liquidated, with its assets absorbed by the newly formed Royal Mail Lines.
Frederick Charles Herrick, a renowned graphic artist, was active for many decades after World War I. Having studied at the Leicester School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London, he became a respected teacher at Brighton, as well as at the Royal College of Art and the Sir John Cass Institute.
The poster vividly depicts a scene of the Norwegian fjords, featuring sheep, a shepherd, a small house, and a ship sailing through a fjord surrounded by steep mountains. Its vibrant orange, yellow, and black hues showcase the striking geometric repetition typical of Art Deco design.
This poster remains in very good condition, with minor wear. It has been professionally mounted on linen for preservation.
