A wonderful original Danish railway poster featuring the famous streamlined DSB locomotive at full speed, racing out of a tunnel beneath a giant stylized speedometer — a powerful symbol of progress and modern engineering.
Originally designed in 1937 by Aage Rasmussen, one of Denmark’s foremost poster artists, the first version of this image showed a top speed of 120 km/h. This later issue was updated to 140 km/h, reflecting the technical advances and ambitions of the Danish State Railways.
Upon the poster’s first release, DSB commented:
- “We think the poster is quite unique. We are absolutely convinced that Aage Rasmussen will become one of Denmark's best poster designers.”
The train, later nicknamed “Sølvpilen” (The Silver Arrow), became an icon of Danish design and railway history. The poster boldly proclaims 140 km/h, a speed that was surpassed on the Danish railways in 1964.
A masterwork of Scandinavian modernist design — dynamic, minimal, and elegant — capturing the exhilaration of speed and the optimism of the Machine Age. Highly sought after by collectors and institutions alike.
Condition: Very good. Two tiny tears and a small discoloration in the lower right margin. Strong colors, clean surface, and excellent overall presentation.
