This is a wonderful original vintage railway poster designed by the acclaimed British artist Fred Taylor for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) in the late 1920s.
The poster promotes York, one of England’s most historic and picturesque cities, beautifully rendered through Taylor’s refined architectural style. The composition features King’s Manor, its sunlit brick façade draped in ivy, with the towers of York Minster faintly visible in the background. The scene evokes the quiet grandeur and timeless charm of this ancient cathedral city.
Fred Taylor was among Britain’s most respected poster artists, active from 1908 through the 1940s, known for his mastery of architectural perspective and his ability to convey the atmosphere of historic places with painterly precision.
This design was featured in Commercial Art / Art and Industry (July 1928, p.33), highlighting its artistic and promotional significance in the golden age of British railway travel.
A superb and desirable LNER poster from one of the masters of early 20th-century British design.
