This fabulous original SAS travel poster from the 1950s was designed by Otto Nielsen, one of Scandinavian Airlines System’s most prolific and recognizable artists. Nielsen produced a wide range of iconic posters for SAS from the late 1940s through the 1970s, helping define the airline’s visual identity during the golden age of air travel.
The poster promotes South America, with a lively depiction of Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana, captured in an energetic, painterly style. The scene is filled with movement and color: elegantly dressed figures, beachgoers, and dancers animate the foreground, while the sweeping beachfront and cityscape recede into the distance beneath a vast blue sky. The loose brushwork and vibrant palette convey warmth, rhythm, and the excitement of exotic travel, perfectly aligned with mid-century modern design ideals.
Condition: In very good condition. Mounted on linen and ready to hang. This poster would look wonderful framed.
