A wonderful original lithograph in color issued by SFR to promote the Simplon tunnel. The poster depicts two women pointing at the Simplon Tunnel on a large railway map of Europe.
From the text inlay at upper right:
"THE SIMPLON and its connected Lines. England - Switzerland - Italy.
International Express-Train Service with through-carriages, dining and sleeping cars. The ways of access to the Simplon traverse some of the most picturesque districts of Switzerland.
No discomfort from smoke in the SIMPLON TUNNEL (the longest in the word, 12 ½ milles), or on the LETSCHBERG Line (Thun to Brig). as the traffic
is carried on by means of electric locomotives.

A paper patch that was glued on top and bottom with another text has been removed when the poster was backed on linen. Signs of glue, small tears. Looks very nice.
