This spectacular poster was designed by Harald Damsleth for the Oslo Craft and Industries Exhibition of 1938, one of Norway's most ambitious pre-war industrial fairs. Held from 12 May to 18 September 1938, the exhibition celebrated Norwegian craftsmanship, engineering, and modern industry while presenting Oslo as a dynamic and forward-looking capital.
Damsleth depicts the exhibition grounds in a dramatic Art Deco perspective, dominated by the soaring Vi kan Tower, the fair's iconic landmark. Around it are the exhibition halls, harbor, ships, airplanes, and crowds of visitors, creating a vibrant vision of progress and innovation. The bold geometric forms, streamlined architecture, and striking use of color make this one of the finest examples of Norwegian graphic design from the 1930s.
Today, the poster is regarded as one of Harald Damsleth's most iconic works and an outstanding example of Scandinavian Art Deco poster art. This is the English-language variant of the design.
