This original vintage Swiss railway travel poster was issued by the Rhätische Bahn (RhB) to promote travel on its world-famous Alpine railway network in Graubünden (Grisons). The poster features the spectacular Landwasser Viaduct near Filisur, one of Switzerland's most iconic railway landmarks, with a bright red RhB train crossing the graceful stone arches high above the rushing Landwasser River. While the exact publication year is uncertain, the design and RhB branding suggest it was produced in the late 1970s or early 1980s.
Completed in 1902, the Landwasser Viaduct is one of the engineering masterpieces of the Rhaetian Railway. Standing 65 metres (213 feet) above the river and spanning 136 metres (446 feet), the limestone viaduct is famous for its elegant six-arched design and the remarkable way the railway disappears directly into a tunnel carved into the cliff face. Together with the Albula and Bernina lines, it now forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes, recognized for its outstanding engineering and harmonious integration into the Alpine environment.
The dramatic low-angle photograph captures both the power of the mountain river and the elegance of the soaring viaduct, while the vivid red train provides a striking contrast against the natural tones of the stone bridge, forest, and crystal-clear water. The composition perfectly illustrates why the Rhaetian Railway has become one of the world's most celebrated scenic railways.
A beautiful original vintage Swiss railway poster, celebrating the engineering excellence and breathtaking scenery of the Rhätische Bahn, making it highly desirable for collectors of railway, travel, and Swiss tourism posters.
