This original vintage Norway travel poster from 1966 was designed by Norwegian artist and graphic designer Knut Yran (1920-1998) and published by the Norway Travel Association. Yran created several memorable Norwegian travel posters, and this is one of his most playful and unusual designs.
The colorful illustration uses the Norwegian troll as its central theme. A cheerful troll strides through a Norwegian mountain landscape carrying suitcases decorated with Norwegian flags, while a group of tourists sits on top of his head. They are shown sightseeing, taking photographs, fishing and relaxing, humorously presenting some of the experiences awaiting visitors to Norway. The slogan "Norway - for real trollidays!" is a playful combination of "troll" and "holidays", drawing on Norway's long tradition of troll folklore.
A wonderfully cheerful and highly decorative example of 1960s Norwegian tourism advertising by Knut Yran. This is a very rare poster that is seldom seen for sale, and its humorous design makes it particularly appealing.
Professionally mounted on linen and in very good condition, with some repaired tears and tiny areas of paper loss in the margins.
