This is an original vintage Cunard ocean liner travel poster from 1931, promoting Cunard Winter Cruises aboard the RMS Laconia. The poster advertises voyages to the West Indies, Atlantic Isles, and the Mediterranean in January and March 1931, with fares starting at 32 guineas. Additionally, an extra promotional patch highlights a special extra cruise to Venice & the Dalmatian Coast, lasting 22 days from March 17, with fares starting at 44 guineas.
The artwork features a striking and dramatic pirate portrait, painted in a bold, realistic style. The pirate has a weathered face, piercing yellow eyes, a curled mustache, and gold hoop earrings. He wears a large, worn-out black hat with gold trim, and a colorful red and blue headscarf. His intense gaze and rugged appearance create an adventurous and mysterious atmosphere, emphasizing the exotic destinations of the cruise.
The background is a warm, aged parchment tone, complementing the vintage aesthetic. The typography is elegant and classic, with "CUNARD WINTER CRUISES" displayed prominently in bold, serif lettering. The "Special Extra Cruise" announcement is placed on a dark rectangular patch, adding a contrasting element to the design.
The poster is mounted on linen, showing lithographic fold marks, and is in excellent condition. A rare and collectible piece of maritime and travel history.
