Norwegian State Railways (NSB), also referred to as the State Railway, was from 1883 to 1996 a Norwegian public enterprise that built and ran the railways in Norway.
Norway's first railway was opened in 1854. It was built and run as a private company, although with some government ownership.
Gunnar Østbøll had the winning design in the competition for NSB's anniversary poster. Title: "From afar» («Fra det Fjerne»)
