Description:

A wonderful and rare original poster for the cancelled 1940 Xvth Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland. The games was never held due to the WWII outbreak.

The 1940 Summer Olympics were originally scheduled to be held from September 21 to October 6, 1940, in Tokyo, Japan. They were rescheduled for Helsinki, Finland, to be held from July 20 to August 4, 1940, but were cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II.

The poster depicts the Finnish middle-distance and long-distance runner Paavo Nurmi ("Flying Finn") in front of the globe with the map of Finland. Nurmi set 22 official world records at distances between 1500 meters and 20 kilometers, and won nine gold and three silver medals in his twelve events in the Olympic Games.

This is in the original Finnish language "Olympiakisat Helsingissä".

Very rare! In excellent condition.
