An iconic original first-edition 1957 Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) poster by renowned Norwegian designer Knut Yran, created to promote Oslo as “Norway’s Viking Capital.”
The poster depicts a cheerful Viking proudly holding a platter featuring Oslo’s landmarks — the City Hall, Akershus Fortress, and the Oslofjord — rendered in Yran’s signature bold, humorous mid-century style. This joyful and colorful image perfectly embodies the optimism of the 1950s golden age of air travel, when SAS positioned itself as the gateway to Scandinavia.
Printed in 11 rich lithographic colors by Trygve B. Pedersen & Sønn A/S, Oslo, this is the first printing of one of SAS’s most beloved and enduring poster designs. Later reprints followed, but this 1957 edition stands out for its exceptional depth of color and historical significance.
A rare and highly desirable poster for collectors of Scandinavian design and aviation history.
Condition: Very good condition. Fresh, vivid colors with only light age wear.
