This original vintage poster, dating back to the 1920s, was issued by the Nelson Lines to promote their routes to Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, including stops in the Canary Islands.
The poster features two inset images: one capturing a South American scene and another showcasing a rendering of the ship Highland Loch. The Highland Loch, constructed in 1911, was a notable vessel in the Nelson Lines fleet during the early 20th century. In 1929, it was sold to Jamaica Producers SS Co. and renamed Jamaica Planter.
The Nelson Liner service from London commenced in 1910, with a fleet of ten ships operating between the Albert Docks and Buenos Aires. Equipped with 4,600 hp engines and averaging speeds of 13-14 knots per hour, these ships covered the 6,300-mile journey between London and Buenos Aires in 21 days.
This poster was aimed for the Swedish market. Rare!
Mounted on linen, the poster exhibits some age-related wear, including stains, dirt, and discoloration, along with minor restorations. Despite these signs of wear, the poster remains a captivating relic, providing a glimpse into the maritime history and travel routes of the Nelson Lines during the early 20th century.
