This charming original vintage poster showcases Sweden's bid for the 1988 Winter Olympics. The poster features a skillfully designed winter village scene, complete with falling snow and snow-covered mountains.
Despite Sweden's numerous attempts to host the Winter Olympics over the past four decades, they have yet to succeed. In 1988, they came close as the runner-up to Calgary, ultimately being eliminated in the second round of voting with 31 votes.
Interestingly, Sweden has never had the opportunity to host the Winter Olympics, despite being one of the most decorated nations in Winter Olympics history with a total of 176 medals.
Continuing their efforts, Sweden has once again submitted a bid to host the 2030 Winter Olympics. This time, Stockholm and several other cities across the country are being considered as potential venues. The Swedish government, Stockholm city council, and Swedish Olympic Committee have all thrown their support behind the candidacy.
The text at the bottom of the poster, "Candidate host for the XVth Winter Olympics to be held in 1988," is written in English, French, German, Russian, and Swedish.
Overall, the poster is in excellent condition, preserving a piece of Sweden's Olympic history.
