This exceptionally rare original Swedish poster, designed by Bror Emilsson, promotes the 1943 Swedish Slalom Championship (SM i Slalom) held in Åre on March 21.
The illustration captures a skier in mid-flight, torch in hand, soaring above the snowy landscape in a powerful, stylized depiction of the sport. Below, the "Årebanan" funicular railway is prominently featured, a landmark still in use today to transport skiers up to the “Fjällgården” area in Åre.
This championship saw Hans Hansson and May Nilsson from Åre SK claim gold in the men’s and women’s slalom events. At this time, only slalom was competed, as giant slalom had not yet been introduced. Emilsson’s design captures both the excitement of the sport and the historical significance of Åre as a premier skiing destination in Sweden.
Only three copies of this poster have been registered for sale, making it a highly sought-after piece for collectors. It has been professionally mounted on linen and remains in very good condition, preserving the vivid colors and crisp details.
