This original vintage ski travel poster, designed by Norwegian artist Harald Damsleth in 1938, showcases a dynamic skiing scene. The artwork features a skier in mid-air, captured against a backdrop of snow-covered mountains and clear blue skies. The skier's posture and the trailing snow convey a sense of speed and exhilaration, embodying the thrill of the sport. The poster's vibrant colors and bold composition reflect the Art Deco style prevalent during that era.
Originally created for the Norwegian ski manufacturer Splitkein, this design was later adopted by Flexible Flyer in the USA to promote their licensed production of Splitkein skis. These posters were distributed to various ski resorts across the United States, with specific resort names printed at the bottom margin to localize the advertisement. The design also appeared in magazine advertisements, extending its reach to a broader audience.
The poster has undergone restorations to address issues such as missing paper and signs of discoloration and age-related wear. Despite these restorations, it remains in very good condition, preserving the vibrant imagery that makes it a striking piece of skiing and advertising history. Mounted on linen.
