This is a highly rare and captivating vintage airline poster from 1955, created to promote Flugfélag Íslands (Icelandic Airways). The airline traces its origins to Flugfélag Akureyrar, established in Akureyri in 1937. It later relocated its headquarters to Reykjavík and was renamed Flugfélag Íslands. In 1973, it merged with Loftleiðir, forming the airline known today as Icelandair.
The artwork, designed by Kai Rich, portrays a picturesque Icelandic countryside scene. A small village with a church sits at the foot of dramatic, snow-capped mountains, while farmers harvest grass for winter. In the foreground, three Icelandic horses roam near a rocky shoreline. The poster’s striking color palette consists mainly of blue, green, and yellow, enhancing its vibrant and dynamic composition.
This poster remains in excellent condition, with only minor signs of wear and fold marks. It has been professionally mounted on linen with an acid-free barrier to ensure its longevity and preservation.
