This original 1919 Swedish poster was issued to promote Svenska Reklamveckan (Swedish Advertising Week), held February 14–23 at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Designed by Rich. Bergman, the artwork features a stylized nude figure wearing a winged helmet, reminiscent of Mercury, the Roman god of communication and commerce. The figure unfurls a golden ribbon or scroll, likely symbolizing the spreading of advertising and ideas.
The exhibition was the first of its kind in Sweden and represented a significant cultural moment, elevating advertising to the level of fine art by hosting it in such a prestigious venue. The event aimed to showcase the artistic and commercial potential of advertising in a rapidly modernizing society.
Though the upper right corner of the poster is missing, the piece is otherwise in good condition. It is a rare and valuable example of early 20th-century Scandinavian graphic design, combining classical themes with modernist aesthetics. As a historical artifact, it offers unique insight into the development of visual culture and commercial art in Sweden.
