This wonderful original vintage travel poster for Bergen was designed by Kjell Kristoffersen and issued in 1945 by the regional tourism body Turisttrafikkkomiteens for Bergen, Hordaland, Sogn og Fjordane (TTK).
Created as the winning entry in a poster design competition, the work gained further recognition when Kristoffersen was awarded a diploma at the Vienna Poster Competition 1948 for the same design. The poster beautifully captures Bergen as “The Doorway to Norway,” presenting a panoramic view of the harbor city in a richly atmospheric palette dominated by deep blues.
The composition is both poetic and modern, with a foreground silhouette of a tree framing the scene, while the town glows in warm tones of yellow and red against the cool fjord and surrounding mountains. The expressive brushwork and painterly texture give the poster a distinctive artistic quality, bridging fine art and commercial design.
Condition: Small tape stains and light age wear; overall presents very well and would display beautifully when framed.
A rare and highly evocative Norwegian travel poster, prized for its artistic merit, exhibition history, and strong decorative appeal.
