A stunning original authentic vintage airline poster published by Det Norske Luftfartselskap (DNL – Norwegian Air Lines), depicting a majestic Short Sandringham flying boat resting in a Norwegian fjord. In the foreground a local fisherman glides across the calm water in a small wooden boat, while dramatic mountain peaks rise in the background, creating a romantic and distinctly Norwegian atmosphere that perfectly captures the adventurous spirit of postwar air travel.
Founded in 1927, DNL operated domestic and international routes before the Second World War and again from 1946 to 1951, eventually becoming one of the three founding partners of Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). The airline used flying boats on several of its routes during the immediate postwar years, and the Sandringham became one of the most iconic aircraft associated with Scandinavian civil aviation of the period.
DNL operated three Sandringham aircraft in its fleet, including LN-LAK “Polarbjørn” and LN-LAI “Jutulen.” Derived from the famous Short Sunderland military flying boat, the Sandringham was converted into a luxurious civilian airliner designed for long-distance travel over water. Before modern airports became widespread, flying boats offered elegant access to coastal destinations and fjords that were otherwise difficult to reach.
This is a highly sought-after and exceptionally rare Norwegian aviation poster with wonderful atmosphere and impressive visual impact. Some light wear, otherwise in very good condition. Mounted on linen.
