An attractive postwar Swedish travel poster promoting Helsingborg, designed by Gunnar Christenson and issued in 1947.
The poster depicts the famous Kärnan tower rising above the city and coastline. Kärnan is the surviving medieval keep of a once-powerful Danish fortress that guarded the strategic entrance between the Øresund strait and the Baltic Sea together with Kronborg Castle on the opposite shore.
Christenson’s composition combines simplified modernist forms with bright Scandinavian colors, creating a clean and elegant image characteristic of Nordic travel posters of the late 1940s. The sweeping coastline, lush foreground, and monumental tower successfully capture both the historical importance and scenic charm of Helsingborg.
Mounted on linen. Minor wear, otherwise in excellent condition.
