Vivid original election poster issued by the Bondepartiet (Farmers’ Party) for the Norwegian parliamentary elections of 10 October 1949. The design depicts a smiling young woman in a red headscarf carrying a large bundle of golden wheat, a powerful symbol of vitality, prosperity, and rural strength. The slogan reads:
"Eit livskraftig jordbruk – eit livskraftig folk"
("A vigorous agriculture – a vigorous people")
Historical context:
The 1949 election resulted in a decisive victory for the Labour Party, which secured 85 out of 150 seats in the Storting. The Bondepartiet, representing Norway’s rural population, received 4.9% of the vote, reflecting its more modest parliamentary presence during the postwar period.
Despite the limited electoral success that year, this poster is an excellent example of mid-20th century Scandinavian political graphics, emphasizing optimism, tradition, and the essential role of farmers in national life.
Condition: Excellent. Bright colors, minimal handling wear. Rare in this condition. Note the size.
